Short Takes: Remote Review From A Bathtub

From an interview with Anastas Michos, ASC, GSC, about his work on “The Autopsy”, from Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities

Phedon Papamichael, ASC, GSC: I have a question. Just real quick about the DI, because you keep mentioning it. I was at the ASC clubhouse, and we were talking about agents and DI time and all that. And I was told that in television, often the DP doesn’t get to even do any DI time, but I’m assuming on a show like this…

AM: Right. I’ve only done two series. I did a series called Quantico a long time ago up in Montreal, and I did something down in Atlanta. And you’re so busy that there is no DI time. On Netflix, I have to say, they were incredibly supportive on the DI except again, it was pandemic time. So this was a scenario where they handed you the remote, the iPad Pro, and of course, the only room in my apartment that’s totally dark is my bathroom. So I put pillows in my bathtub, I had my iPad Pro in my lap, in my bathtub, you know, with the phone on and the iPad on and all the lights out, ‘cause you’re trying to see the exact same iPad that the colorist is looking at in his or her darkened environment. So it was kind of funny ’cause I would sit in my bathtub for a standard DI session for a solid week.
