Moj: All HDR Videos Are Dolby Vision

Update: As of June 2023, close to 20,000 Dolby Vision videos had been uploaded to the video sharing platform since the launch, according to Moj. Yet, as of November 24, 2023, Team Moj says that Dolby Vision is ‘in the experiment phase.’

Yesterday was nothing if not strange. To begin with, in the morning, all YouTube videos had 14K likes for some reason. Then, in the evening, a video we uploaded to the Moj app in HDR10 showed the Dolby Vision logo when it finished processing. Which is really weird, because even though we reported that back in June, Dolby had partnered with the video sharing platform to provide support for Dolby Vision, according the Moji support, the feature hasn’t gone live yet. Below, you can see a screen shot of the HDR10 video with the Dolby Vision logo, alongside a message from the support team at Moj saying that Dolby Vision hasn’t been enabled yet. Yet, the thumbnail for the Dolby Vision upload is a normal looking SDR transform, while the HDR10 one resembles log. So there’s unmistakably some different processing going on here. It could just be HLG with the Dolby Vision log! ha ha

FWIW, none of the app’s update history mentions anything about Dolby Vision.

Since the iPhone 12, all iPhones can capture Dolby Vision with HLG base layer Profile 8.4, and videos uploaded directly to Moj do bear the Dolby Vision logo.
