“Hi, my names Rich and I’m a media engineer for Animal Logic in Vancouver, Canada. One of our DI colorists told me about your website and forums [liftgammagain], so I thought I’d share what we’ve been doing in order to try and turn off the fabled dimming on the LG G3.
We got a Canadian bought LG G3 for our last show and have been battling to turn off the dimming function for months. It’s a really great monitor with a great panel inside, which is hampered by the dimming feature.
LG have given users in the USA the option to turn off the dimming, by enrolling the TV / User in an “opt out program”. Once enrolled, a firmware update is delivered which will enable you to disable this feature. We have been in contact with LG, who have told us that there are currently no plans to roll-out this opt-out program to other global regions.
We have attempted to spoof the TV into thinking it was based in LA in an effort to get the firmware update, but this doesn’t work as the TV model number is also tied to region of sale.
We have downloaded and attempted to use the ColorControl software with no success. A firmware update of the LG G3 to version 66.66.ff enables the software to see the monitor and report back the monitor version label, but enables no control of the TV what-so-ever. We can see the LG as a device on the network but no communication is available.
Obviously we’re disappointed to hit this wall, so I wondered what others were doing to find success in the use of the Color Control software? We’ve connected both wired and wirelessly with no success. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.”
