RAW Convertor doesn’t convert the ProRes RAW files into the color space and gamma that they were shot in. Rec709, P3-60 and Blackmagic Design Film are the only options to develop the RAW files, not Slog3 and S.Gamut 3 Cine. Is there a possibility to fix this in a future update or am I maybe using the wrong settings?
“RAW format doesn’t have color space. You can develop it to all color spaces and gammas. These 3 options (Rec.709, P3-D60 and Blackmagic Design Film) are a limitation of DaVinci Resolve… It is RAW. You don’t need any kind of exotic logs such as S-Log. You can change the gamma directly in the Camera RAW tab to Rec.709 (and add some highlight rolloff manually in curves) or use BMD film gamma (I am preferring) and add saturation and contrast manually in the Camera RAW tab, too. Which generation of Blackmagic Design Film is the cDNG from cameras other than BMD converted to?
“When the source is not a Blackmagic Camera, there will be no camera science version dropdown in the DNG RAW panel – so the Gen is “1”… “Blackmagic Film” for Gen 1 is actually not a transform but passes out sensor space, or sensor RGB. How is cDNG debayered in DaVinci Resolve?
“DaVinci automatically debayers to Rec.709/ Gamma 2.4. There is nothing we can do about what it does by default, but you can go into the RAW settings and change them to Blackmagic Film and get a log image out of it… We just decode the ProRes RAW, take the mosaic/bayer data and put it into the DNG. Thing is that Resolve does not offer many debayering options for DNG, except their own and Panasonic (for which we are working on an update)… That said – most people find transcoding to conventional ProRes the better way. It contains all the image information, even though not ‘RAW’. You can tweak the WB inside Play Pro Studio and then export to ProRes 4444. That will give you a log image in Resolve, with tons of image information.” – AssimilateSCRATCH
