Shortly after colorist Darren Mostyn published his latest color management video, we pointed out that his explanation of scene-referred and display-referred grading was inaccurate. Not only did he double down on his blunder in his reply, but he’s since deleted our comment and pinned a long, muddled statement in the comments section which will only confuse his audience further – that is, if they even bother to read it at all. [Edit (July 2025): Mostyn has since not only deleted our comment, but also taken down his own pinned statement where he all but confessed to having screwed up, ensuring that tens of thousands of viewers (76K+) will have absorbed dangerously misleading workflow information]. Mostyn’s tutorial has already gotten tens of thousands of views; and however well-intentioned, incomplete, unclear and incontestably incorrect information is harmful to the community at large.
