**Netflix Ditches HDR After Influencers Convince Public That It Makes Film Look Like Poop**
By Freddy Flickster – Feb. 22, 2025
In a bold move to appease disgruntled auteurs, Netflix announced today it will cease all HDR streaming, citing filmmakers’ complaints that high dynamic range made their work “look like unadulterated doggy poop.” Working diligently on behalf of prominent directors and renowned cinematographers, who complained that HDR would require them to unlearn decades of acquired habits, influencers managed to gaslight the public into believing that it is SDR, not HDR, that has the inky blacks, velvety shadows and gently rolled-off highlights that discriminating cinephiles lust after.
Subscribers were divided. “I can’t tell if my screen is dirty or if it’s art,” complained user @4KStan, while reddit user Wright123 applauded the change: “Finally, The Irishman looks like it was shot on a ’90s flip phone, as Scorsese intended.” Industry watchers eagerly anticipate the responses of Disney+ and Amazon Prime.
What planet do these numbskulls come from??
What the hell is going on here . . .
This is beyond stupid. If you’re that hell bent, then master in HDR, then deliver a superior SDR.
HDR is a no-brainer. It has a palpability beyond any SDR, and is ifinitely more engaging.
Netfix?
Who’s next, Amazon?
It’s not April Fools’s yet, but you got ’em. 👍
Anybody who doesn’t want HDR can just disable it on their favorite device. If they can’t figure that out, then that’s on them.
