Kevin Miller, President of ISFTV: Display & Video Source Product Development Consultant and ISF Calibrator and Level III Instructor for the Imaging Science Foundation, doubted me when I said that my Sony A95L QD-OLED TV had atrocious artifacts when playing Dolby Vision content, writing;
“I have calibrated at least 20 Sony A95Ls and not seen atrocious artifacts in DV content. I don’t spend more than a few hours at a clients place looking at content, but I have to think of it was that bad I would’ve seen something. Also this is the first I’ve heard of this since they were introduced over a year ago.”
He questioned the validity of my remarks – even after I shared screen shots! Says he’s never heard of the problem! There’s a mammoth thread devoted to the A95L over at the AVSForums where countless owners share their own pictures of the artifacts. In December 2024, Sony released a firmware update for the A95L series specifically addressing issues with Dolby Vision, including poor grayscale in dark scenes and other problems. I suppose he’s also never heard that to this day, brand new A95Ls are still breaking down due to faulty TCON boards.
What is this person even doing in the calibration business?
