From two readers over at 43 Rumors, this is priceless (concerning a video purporting to prove that Panasonic’s recent firmware update doesn’t prevent the IBIS from sticking when panning with the atrocious Leica DG Vario-Elmar 100-400mm f/4-6.3 lens on the Lumix G80):
– Yes test that handheld IS on a tripod.
– How can it be handheld on a tripod?
– Mount camera on tripod. Pick up tripod. Shoot video. I think the ergonomics would suffer a little though.
I would never spend $1,800 for that crap Leica lens. If I were a sports or nature photographer, I would however invest in the gorgeous Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 300mm f/4.0 ED IS Pro, whose image stabilization reaches a remarkable 4.5-4.7 EV, according to LensTip.com. And because reviews of lenses are practically meaningless without some samples, here’s an outstanding demonstration of the capabilities of the Zuiko lens mounted on the Lumix GX8, and generously shared by MirrorLessons.
I should add that a good tripod is worth its weight in gold, and I can highly recommend the iFootage Wild Bull T7 carbon fiber tripod. I’ve been using it for a while now, and it is modestly priced, sturdy as hell, handsome enough that it gets nods of approval from people on the street, and is able to handle up to 40 kg payload.
