Brian Caldwell, designer of the Metabones Speed Booster, revealed today that he’s at work designing 1.79x anamorphic lenses. This news, sure to please owners of the Lumix GH5, comes on top of yesterday’s announcement by Panasonic that the massive firmware update v.2, due out in September, will have in-body anamorphic de-squeeze. At the moment however, desqueeze will only be available for 1.33x and 2x lenses. Veydra, manufacturer of the renowned Mini Prime cinema lenses, had announced plans at NAB 2015 to design a micro four thirds anamorphic lens and even built a prototype, but later dropped the idea when they realized how difficult it would be to maintain their high standards while at the same time pricing the lens below $5,000.00.
