I just picked up the Sony 50mm GM this afternoon. It’s surprisingly compact for a lens of those parameters and feels reassuringly solid. The FX3, on the other hand (which I had a chance to play with at the shop), missed an opportunity: the awkward placement of the joystick, record button and on/off switch were bizarre design decisions; the lack of a couple of larger mounting points necessitating the purchase of a cage is yet another; and the absence of cinema camera features like shutter angle, 24p, built-in ND filters, waveform or false color make this a camera to pick up more for its seriously good looks rather than as a replacement for the a7s III. Oh, I almost forgot – USD $3,900.00 and the FX3, along with practically every other Sony mirrorless camera, has still got among the worst LCDs in the business.
